Junior Research Assistant

Our Company Profile

Gut Rhythm is a research team spin-off from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Gut Rhythm provides drug-testing service and subscription service (to-be-launched) to our standardized and sustainable "electrical" drug databases. Drug-testing service will test clients’ drug-of-interest using our provisionally patented protocol of gastrointestinal slow-wave network analysis to create unique electrophysiological drug profiles. Self-developed automatic analytical pipeline allows maximum speed to create comprehensive drug testing report in 1 day. Our private drug databases propose unique predictive power storing >100 “electrical” biomarkers for each drug. Gut Rhythm will manage the database by expanding it with more drugs to improve its predictive power for the application in artificial intelligence (AI) drug discovery, e.g. to predict drug targets and adverse effects.

We aim to utilize the bio-electrical big-data resources to create AI models to make a difference in drug discovery.

Qualification

Hopebotics is a young Hong Kong start-up company located in HK Science and Technology Park, founded by two CUHK professors (prof. Each project will offer unique challenges as you work with representatives from business partners as well as elevators, telecommunication systems, automatic doors, building infrastructure teams, and more to ensure RICE can be deployed and operated successfully. In your role you will develop a deep understanding of RICE’s systems and inner workings to support RICE’s operations. You will communicate issues to the engineering teams and take responsibility to make sure that RICE works as efficiently and reliable as possible.

The Work

  • Ensure the performance and reliability of our fleet of robots, as well as network and customer site infrastructure, in support of our customers and partners.
  • Provide high level troubleshooting to resolve issues that are beyond the capabilities of our Level 1 & 2 support service.
  • Monitor the health and operations of the fleet of RICE robots and proactively engage to resolve faults before they impact customer operations.
  • Respond and provide technical guidance to customers regarding operational issues, software and configuration changes, and general maintenance
  • Document field issues, analysis and resolution, and maintain up-to-date records of robot and site configurations, serial numbers, etc. to aid in both CS and product development.
  • Show eagerness to learn new technologies, and to embrace and master our systems at all levels.
  • Communicate and collaborate with our global team across Operations, Engineering and Customer Success.
  • Contribute to the development of instrumentation and automation for monitoring, detection, and self-healing of failures.
  • Contribute to the creation of customer guides, FAQs, application notes, best practices.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor's or Diploma with experience in a technical field (including EE, ME, CS, Robotics)
  • Must be able to focus and drive issues to closure in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Strong communication and people skills. Customer-centric mindset; willingness to go above and beyond to keep customers happy
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve device and system-level problems in Linux.
  • Experience with firewalls, VPN, and network security technologies
  • Working knowledge of HTTP, ICMP, SSH, DNS, and other low-level network protocols
  • Willingness to troubleshoot electro-mechanical components in distributed systems.
  • Document methods and liaise with engineering for any unknowns to document those.
  • Requires a willingness to work within established systems and produce results that either prevent problems from recurring, or enable others to solve them more easily in the future.

  • Hands on experience in configuration and administration of highly distributed networks.

Electrical Engineering Intern

About us:

Auto Keto is a biotech startup developing a device which tracks human metabolism non-invasively via a combination of biomarkers. Currently we are working with semi-conductor material to detect acetone with high sensitivity (ppb) range. The data obtained from the sensor will be transmitted to a smart phone via Bluetooth and processed in an app.

1. Electrical Engineering Intern

EE intern in Auto Keto will have hands on experience with semi-conductor material gas sensors. A currently existing circuit hooked up to an Arduino Uno is ready for you to test different kinds of material for the sensor in order to achieve high acetone sensitivity. Alternatively, you can also build re-build the circuit to your liking.

While experimenting with different kinds of sensor materials all the data must be transmitted via Bluetooth to a mobile device. There will be another intern from computer science background working alongside with you.

Responsibility:

  • Extensive literature research in gas sensor as well as reaching out to Professors for technical support.
  • Improve Signal to Noise ratio with different kinds of semi-conductor material.
  • Expect failure and be honest and be proactive to do it better on the next try.
